Building a Career in Carpentry: Max’s Story at Omega
Building careers is just as important as building homes at Omega. Supporting the next generation of tradespeople is a key part of what we do, providing real opportunities to learn, grow and develop on site. We spoke to Max, our apprentice carpenter about his experience so far, from first starting out to the skills they’re developing every day.
What made you choose carpentry as a career?
Being able to build and create remarkable structures and living spaces is what carpentry offers and I’m all for it!
What attracted you to doing your apprenticeship with Omega?
Ever since I first started with Omega I’ve always wanted to grow and better myself in carpentry and Tom helped me do so by signing me up and starting my journey.
What does a typical day on site look like to you?
Learning, working hard and bonding with a team creating people’s dream homes.
What skills have you learnt so far in your apprenticeship?
I've learnt multiple skills ranging from first fix and second fix carpentry, making a truss roof, stud work framing, hanging doors and fitting skirting to joinery skills manufacturing staircases and doors.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Helping bring customers’ dreams to life, transforming their living spaces into beautiful areas that they can be proud of.
What has been your proudest moment since starting?
Growing, achieving and becoming someone I never thought I could be, is my proudest moment.
What advice would you give to other young people thinking about a trade?
Have pride in your work and be consistent. Keep your work and working area clean, and if you make a mistake learn from it, try again, don’t let it get you down!
Stories like this are what Omega is all about. Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re proud to support individuals as they grow, develop and build lasting careers in the industry. Investing in apprentices today means building the skilled workforce of tomorrow.
